4B4 in Action: Case Studies
Peace and Justice
Unity Quilt Project
The conceptualized by 4B4 Education, fosters healing and collective community-building by creating safe spaces to unpack, metabolize, and dialogue about issues around social justice / injustice and peace / harmony through a series of working sessions. The sessions involved grounding and self-compassion work, dialogue, and constructing mini-quilts to add to the larger Quilt. The project culminated in a symbolic co-created Quilt that represents the collective vision of Muslim, Christian, and Jewish youth, families, and concerned community members belonging to three DC congregations to address and envision what a peaceful and just future might look like. Quilting is an artistic expression that has foundations in African American culture and like other artistic mediums, allow expression in spaces of trauma where words alone fail. The Quilt is currently being circulated for display across the congregations and will be deconstructed and the parts distributed to the individual creators as reminders of their commitments to one another. The project running dates are November 2022 through May 2023.
